Find relief with my holistic approach.

My Story.

Welcome to Serene Acuhealing

A Nurse led Acupuncture clinic in Barnes, London.

My name is Jo and I welcome you.

I have a First-class Honours BSc, with over 20 years NHS nursing experience. I currently work as a Senior Nurse Specialist at an internationally renowned teaching hospital in East London.

I am an Associate member of and trained with the Acupuncture Association of Physiotherapists, qualified in Western Medical Acupuncture (WMA). This is the insertion of fine needles through the skin into various parts of the body to treat a wide range of conditions.  WMA differs from Traditional Chinese Acupuncture in its approach to where you are putting your needle and why; considering anatomy, biochemistry and neurophysiology.

My interest in acupuncture began when I embarked on my own holistic health journey and found acupuncture  improved my overall wellness.  This was coupled with my own experience of providing many successful treatments of tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS), a type of stimulated acupuncture for bladder and bowel incontinence within my NHS role. Due to many factors general acupuncture and PTNS as a holistic treatment is difficult to source via the NHS, is not covered on many private insurance policies and can be expensive.

Though my acupuncture clinic I am able to offer treatment for pain conditions, fertility, bladder and bowel dysfunction and many other health conditions at a competitive price, incorporating electro acupuncture where indicated.

I offer an extra 10% discount for Blue Light card holders.

My Philosophy

Acupuncture is the cornerstone of my practise at sereneacuhealing.co.uk. Fine, sterile needles are used to stimulate specific points on the body, this helps to restore balance and promote healing. Acupuncture can be used to treat pain conditions, stress, bladder and bowel dysfunction  infertility and digestive disorders.

Electro Acupuncture

Electroacupuncture is a form of acupuncture that uses small electrical currents, in addition to needles, to stimulate acupoints, potentially offering pain relief and other therapeutic benefits.

  • What it is: Electroacupuncture involves passing a weak electrical current through acupuncture needles inserted into specific points on the body (acupoints).
  • How it works: The electrical stimulation, combined with the traditional acupuncture techniques, is believed to modulate the nervous system, potentially leading to pain relief, reduced inflammation, and other therapeutic effects.
  • Benefits:
    • Pain Relief: Electroacupuncture is used for various pain conditions, including chronic pain, muscle spasms, and pain related to neurological conditions.
    • Inflammation Reduction: Studies suggest that electroacupuncture can help reduce inflammation.
    • Endorphin Release: It may stimulate the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers.
    • Increased Blood Flow: Electroacupuncture can increase blood flow to the treated area.
  • Applications:
    • Pain Management: Electroacupuncture is used for pain relief in conditions like arthritis, back pain, and headaches.
    • Neurological Conditions: It may be used to treat conditions like paralysis and muscle spasms.
    • Anxiety and Depression: Some practitioners use it to address anxiety, depression, and stress.
  • How it is different from traditional acupuncture: Electroacupuncture adds electrical stimulation to the traditional acupuncture technique of inserting needles into acupoints.
  • Safety: Electroacupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by a qualified practitioner. However, potential side effects include mild nausea, dizziness, or pain at the needle site.
