Many women choose acupuncture to help manage common pregnancy symptoms, including:

  • Morning sickness and nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Back pain and pelvic girdle pain
  • Sciatica
  • Neck and shoulder tension
  • Headaches
  • Heartburn

Every pregnancy is unique, so your treatment will always be tailored to your individual needs.

Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?

Acupuncture can be appropriate during pregnancy when carried out by a suitably trained and qualified practitioner following an appropriate assessment.

As an experienced NHS Registered Nurse and AACP-registered medical acupuncturist, I take your pregnancy, medical history, symptoms and any treatment you are receiving into account before deciding whether acupuncture is appropriate.

Treatment is adapted according to your stage of pregnancy and individual circumstances. If there are any concerns about your symptoms or pregnancy, I may recommend that you discuss these with your midwife, GP or maternity team.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start pregnancy acupuncture?

Acupuncture may be used at different stages of pregnancy depending on your symptoms and individual circumstances. Some women seek support during the first trimester for nausea, while others attend later in pregnancy for pelvic or back pain, relaxation or birth preparation. Your treatment will be tailored to your stage of pregnancy and needs.

Is pregnancy acupuncture safe?

Yes. Pregnancy acupuncture is considered safe when carried out by a suitably trained practitioner. As an experienced NHS Registered Nurse and AACP Registered Medical Acupuncturist, I use pregnancy-safe techniques appropriate for each stage of pregnancy.

Can acupuncture help morning sickness?

Acupuncture may be considered as supportive care for nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Your symptoms and medical history will be discussed before treatment to ensure acupuncture is appropriate for you.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of treatments depends on your symptoms and stage of pregnancy. This will be discussed during your initial consultation, and a personalised treatment plan will be created.
